For those who might not know<\/b>, Uruguay’s landscape is characterized by its homogeneity and flatness, functioning as a transition zone between the Pampas plains and the Brazilian Shield. The southern sector is linked to the Pampas lands, while the northern sector connects to the Brazilian plateaus. The terrain is predominantly flat with gently rolling hills and low mountains referred to as “cuchillas.” These hills are remnants of ancient, eroded mountain ranges, primarily crystalline in composition. The highest elevation in Uruguay is Cerro Catedral, which stands at 514 meters above sea level. The plains, or “llanuras,” are the result of sediment accumulation from fluvial processes, particularly those of the Uruguay River. These plains exhibit notable flatness but become more undulating towards the inland compared to the coastal regions. The plains are divided into three sectors: the coastal plain of the Uruguay River, the Platense plain, and the Atlantic plain, which extends around the Mer\u00edn Lagoon…<\/p>\n
