Fushimi Inari Taisha Shrine in Kyoto is dedicated to Inari, the Shinto deity of rice and prosperity. Its Romon (\u697c\u9580)<\/b>, the main gate, was donated in 1589<\/b> by the regent Toyotomi Hideyoshi<\/b>. According to accounts, Hideyoshi pledged to Inari Okami that he would donate 10,000 goku (a rice measurement used as currency) if his mother recovered from an illness. After her recovery, he fulfilled his promise by constructing this iconic gate. For centuries, doubts persisted about the story\u2019s authenticity due to inconsistencies in historical records and architectural details. However, a text written in sumi ink, discovered during a restoration of the Romon and dating back to 1589, confirmed the connection between Hideyoshi and the gate.<\/p>\n
