\ud83c\uddec\ud83c\udde7 Lima is a city that has been destroyed several time by earthquakes and re-built once and again. Nowadays, however, its Plaza Mayor (or Plaza de Armas) houses the oldest and the most authentic monument in the city: its fountain, placed there in 1651, that has survived through earthquakes, social revolts and urban development.<\/p>\n

The side facing the Municipality displays the city\u2019s coat of arms, with the two-headed eagle, the initials of the Spanish queen Joana I of Castile (\u201cJoana the Mad\u201d) and King Charles V: the side facing the Government\u2019s Palace shows the Royal House of Spain\u2019s coat of arms. The side facing the Cathedral is dedicated to the Count Salvatierra and his wife, while the external side presents mestizo-style decorative elements, like hummingbirds and creole flowers.<\/p>\n

At the top of the monument you will see \u201cAngel de la Fama\u201d (The Angel of Fame), statue, a replica of the original one, that was accidentally destroyed in 1900.<\/p>\n

Fame<\/b><\/p>\n

Fame was a divinity of both Greeks and Romans and was responsible for extending the rumors and deeds of men, regardless of the credibility of such ideas. Therefore, it was not well received in the heavenly abode of the gods, and not being a hellish creature, lived among the clouds, causing disorders and misunderstandings among mortals. It is a creation of the Roman poet Virgilio who quotes it in his work “La Eneida”. There he represents her with multiple feathers, eyes, tongues, mouths and ears, as well as his nocturnal gift, fast flight, insomniac activity and daytime surveillance on roofs and towers, shows his receptive and extensive capacity. It has a social function as a messenger. Fame is fast, spreads its news everywhere, transmits terrible news, (the departure of the beloved, the death of the child, the suicide of a queen, the oracle that will be the origin of a war, the beginning of battles, etc. ) and its effects are immediate and devastating.<\/p>\n

In art, from the Renaissance, is represented as a maiden with wings of an eagle, with a trumpet facing east, where the sun is born.<\/p>\n

\ud83c\uddea\ud83c\uddf8 La Fama<\/b><\/p>\n

La Fama era una divinidad tanto de griegos como de romanos y se encargaba de extender los rumores y hechos de los hombres, sin importarle la credibilidad de dichas ideas. Por ello, no era bien recibida en la morada celeste de los dioses, y al no ser tampoco una criatura infernal, habitaba entre las nubes, provocando des\u00f3rdenes y malentendidos entre los mortales. Es una creaci\u00f3n del poeta romano Virgilio que la cita en su obra “La Eneida”. All\u00ed \u00e9l la representa con m\u00faltiples plumas, ojos, lenguas, bocas y o\u00eddos, como tambi\u00e9n su don de nocturnidad, r\u00e1pido vuelo, actividad insomne y vigilancia diurna sobre techos y torres, muestra su capacidad receptiva y extensiva. Tiene una funci\u00f3n social de mensajera. La Fama es veloz, difunde sus noticias a todas partes, transmite novedades terribles, (la partida del amado, la muerte del hijo, el suicidio de una reina, el or\u00e1culo que ser\u00e1 origen de una guerra, el comienzo de las batallas, etc.) y sus efectos son inmediatos y devastadores.<\/p>\n

En el arte, a partir del Renacimiento, es representada como una doncella con alas de \u00e1guila, con una trompeta orientada hacia el este, donde nace el sol. <\/p>\n
