It is a small, elegant white structure with two balconies and a lantern room, distinguished by its neoclassical design.

First established in 1906, it was the first lighthouse on Korea’s east coast. The original wooden structure was later replaced by the current concrete lighthouse in 1911. However, the surrounding pine trees eventually grew so tall that they obscured its light, rendering it ineffective as a navigational aid.

Due to this issue, a much larger, active lighthouse was constructed in 1987. This new lighthouse, which you can see in the background, now serves as the primary beacon for the area.

Despite no longer being in use, the old lighthouse has been preserved as a registered cultural heritage site. It stands as a testament to the region’s rich maritime history and remains a popular landmark within Daewangam Park.

Camera: Canon EOS 800D / Rebel T7i / Kiss X9i

Lens: TAMRON SP 28-75mm F/2.8 Di A09E

Capture Information:
Focal Length: 28.0 mm
Shutter Speed: 1/2500
Aperture: f/3.5
ISO: 100

Photo Taken: April 27, 2025
High resolution
Flickr Gallery

Did you like this post?

The Ulsan Old Lighthouse (also known as the Ulgi Lighthouse) is a historical site located within Daewangam Park, on the eastern coast of South Korea.
