These stone figures serve as guardians on the grounds, notably concentrated near the sub-shrines, such as the Itoku Inari Shrine. The sculpture, which often depicts an adult fox with a cub, visually reinforces themes of fertility, family protection, and well-being.<\/p>\n

A defining feature is the red cloth bib worn by the statues. This garment, known as a yodarekake, is not permanent but is placed by devotees as a votive offering. The act of adorning the statue is a gesture of respect, typically performed to solicit a specific blessing\u2014like commercial success or a safe delivery\u2014or to express gratitude for a prayer that was answered. The color red is highly significant in Shint\u014d, representing protection, vitality, and power, and is used to strengthen the kami’s influence and attract good fortune to the site.<\/p>\n
