Its fossils are found in the marine limestones and marls of southwestern Madagascar \u2014 one of the richest Oxfordian ammonite sites in the Indian Ocean region. Specimens of <i>Epimayaites<\/i> are widely used by geologists to date and correlate rock layers of this age.<\/p>\n<p>The shell is moderately tightly coiled, with a narrow central opening and a whorl section that is taller than it is wide. The ribbing is dense and fine, with primary ribs originating near the inner edge of the shell and sweeping forward across the outer surface.
