Arachova is a mountain town<\/b> built in terraces on the southern slopes of Mount Parnassus<\/b>, in the regional unit of Boeotia, Central Greece, at an elevation of nearly 1,000 meters. Overlooking the Pleistos Valley, the town lies approximately 160 kilometers northwest of Athens.<\/p>\n

The town is characterized by narrow cobbled streets, traditional stone houses with tiled roofs, and an iconic clock tower perched on a rocky outcrop overlooking the town center. Its terraced layout and sweeping mountain views have made Arachova one of Greece’s most picturesque mountain destinations.<\/p>\n

Arachova is best known as a popular winter destination thanks to the nearby Parnassos Ski Centre<\/b>, one of Greece’s largest ski resorts, with facilities in the Kelaria and Fterolakka areas. During the ski season, the town attracts thousands of visitors\u2014particularly from Athens\u2014and is often nicknamed "the Winter Mykonos of Greece<\/b>" for its vibrant nightlife, restaurants, and caf\u00e9s.<\/p>\n

Historically, Arachova is remembered for the Battle of Arachova<\/b>, fought in November 1826 during the Greek War of Independence, when forces commanded by Georgios Karaiskakis defeated an Ottoman army, a victory that became an important symbol of the Greek struggle for independence.<\/p>\n

The town is also renowned for Formaela<\/b>, a traditional grilled cheese protected by the European Union’s Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) status, as well as its local wines, woven textiles, carpets, and handcrafted woodwork. Every year, around April 23, Arachova celebrates the feast of its patron saint, Saint George<\/b>, with traditional music, dancing, and colorful local costumes.<\/p>\n
