Very variable species with the largest flowers in the genus ranging from 100-400 mm in diameter. Clump-forming succulent with fat, green, erect, deeply ribbed stems, up to 200 mm tall and 30 mm thick.
\nThe flowers are large, star-shaped 5-petalled, pale yellow in color, with transverse crimson lines variable in color and covered with purplish or crimson hairs.
\nIt is the most widely north-south distributed species and occurs in Zambia, Malawi, Mozambique, Botswana, Zimbabwe and South Africa.<\/p>\n
